TIMOTHY BOLIN – CHAIRMAN

January 2024 Board Chair Report

What a difference a year makes. When I wrote this report last year, it was a cold and snowy day, but this year it is a beautiful clear and warm day. Love the Wyoming weather.

At our December meeting, the Board voted to keep all of the Board officers the same for the coming year. I continue to be honored to be selected to be Chair again. I will do my best to continue to make sure the Board does its business in a transparent way, and we will continue to welcome comments from the public and look forward to the public watching us do the business of LCSD1.

As many know by now, we passed the first part of the changes to our library book policy. This new policy will require that all parents choose one of four options for their students’ access to district library books during registration. This choice can be changed any time during the year. Parents can also nominate books they think are inappropriate for their children. These books will then be evaluated by a committee and possibly added to the list of books parents can opt out of as one of the options.

Work is now underway developing the administrative regulations for administering these changes. Work is also being done to propose changes to how books are acquired for the LCSD1 libraries. Look for these proposed changes early in 2024.

This school year, the Board also worked through the process to hire a permanent superintendent. This included interviews and multiple opportunities for staff and public input.

We are waiting for the State to decide on our district’s share of construction money allotted last year and how it will be spent.

I hope all of our staff, students and parents were able to use the Holiday break to refresh and recharge and spend fun times with family and friends.

Keep up the great efforts to make our LCSD1 students successful.
