Title One Frequently Asked questions
Title I Prekindergarten FAQs

Q. What are the entry requirements for my child to be eligible for the LCSD#1 prekindergarten program?

The child’s primary residence must be within a Title I Prekindergarten school’s boundary area.

Your child must be 4 years of age on or before August 1st

You must be able to provide transportation to and from school.

Q. How old does my child have to be to enroll in a LCSD#1 Title I Prekindergarten Program?

Your child must turn 4 years old on or before August 1st of this year to enroll.

Q. How can I enroll my child into a Title I Prekindergarten Program?

You must live within a school’s boundary area that offers the program.  If you are not sure if you live in the boundary area, please contact your home school.  If you do live in the boundary area of a school that offers Prekindergarten, then you would register your child during the same time as general registration and address verification.

Remember, you must bring your child’s Birth Certificate to register your child. We also ask that you bring your child’s immunization records.

Q. How will I know if my child is accepted into the Title I Prekindergarten Program?

After the general registration window closes, you child’s name will be put into a random drawing, or “lottery”.  Parents will be notified within 48 hours of the random drawing if their child has been admitted into the Prekindergarten Program, or if your child has been placed on the school’s Prekindergarten waiting list.

Q. If my child is placed on the waiting list, how long will it be until my child gets into the program?

This depends on if a student leaves the prekindergarten program. We cannot predict if, or when, a student will leave the program. In the event a child does leave, and a position does come open, the guardians of the next child on the waiting list will be contacted immediately and be given an opportunity to join the LCSD#1 Prekindergarten program.

Q. What if I live outside of a school’s boundary area, who offers a prekindergarten program?  Do I have any options to get my child into the program?

It is important to remember that these programs are being funded through Federal Title I funding.  Therefore, priority must be given to families who live within a Title I school boundary.  If you are a family who lives outside of a Prekindergarten school boundary area, you may enroll at a tuition based program.

Q. Will my child take a nap?

There is no designated nap time.  However, if a child should fall asleep, they will be accommodated as needed.

Q. Will snacks be provided?

Yes

Q. What experiences will my child be involved in?

Pre-K programs will schedule the occasional field trips, guest speakers, and celebrations.

Q. Will my child participate in specialists?
