Trent Rysell, a senior at East High School, was selected as Laramie County School District 1's Student of the Week for the week of Feb. 2.

Rysell was selected for being goal oriented and academically focused. Known as the "mayor" of East High, he is recognized for his welcoming attitude and positive interactions with students.

He is a role model to his peers in how he demonstrates kindness, tolerance and acceptance of others.

Rysell has participated in multiple sports during his time at East and currently focuses on golf. He also balances a job alongside his academic responsibilities.

After graduation, Rysell will attend the South Dakota School of Mines to study electrical engineering and has been accepted into an accelerated five-year master's program.

Rysell selected Scott Hayes as his favorite teacher, sharing that Hayes' transparency and guidance influenced his decision to pursue engineering.
