Zoe Vazquez, a junior at South High School, was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of Oct. 26. 

Vazquez was chosen for his leadership and academic achievement. He serves as student council vice president of public relations, is a member of the National Honor Society, and helps produce the school’s yearbook. 

Vazquez takes Advanced Placement and honors classes, maintains a high GPA and is enrolled in the Laramie County Community College Accelerate Program. He is working toward his Seal of Biliteracy in English and Spanish.

Vazquez is known for his positive attitude, kindness, and ability to make others feel included. He leads by example, encouraging those around him to be themselves and challenging himself and others to grow. During annual trips to Mexico with his family, Vazquez helps people experiencing homelessness.

Following graduation, he plans to attend the University of Wyoming and major in architecture or interior design. 

Vazquez selected Paige Cathcart as his favorite teacher because of the time and effort she puts into creating engaging opportunities in her classes and through student council. He appreciates her leadership, meaningful connections and commitment to building community at South. 

“Zoe doesn’t just participate in a community; he actively makes it better,” Cathcart said.
