Elementary & Secondary School Students

Consequences for Behavior that Occurs on the Bus or at a Bus Stop

 

  • Level 1 - Bothersome behaviors that impact the operation or safety of self or others on the Bus. Discipline will be addressed verbally and/or written. (Discipline "warning" slip sent home for Parent signature. Slip will be scanned and sent to school.)

  • Level 2 - Behaviors that (a) continue after correction, (b) that impact the operation or safety of others on the Bus. Written notice of discipline and possible suspension from riding the Bus (1 - 5 days*). (Discipline Slip sent home for Parent signature. If suspension occurs, Parent will be contacted by phone. Communication with Principal will occur. Slip will be scanned and sent to school.)

  • Level 3 - Repeated behaviors that (a) continue after correction, (b) impact the operation or safety of others on the Bus, (c) are emotionally or physically hurtful without intent. Written notice of discipline, parent(s) contact/meeting, and up to and including 10 days suspension from riding the bus. * (May also incur school consequences.)

  • Level 4 - Intentional behavior that hurts property, self, or others emotionally or physically. Suspension for remaining of school year or up to one calendar year may occur. * (May also incur school consequences.)

*Repeated offenses may result in progressive discipline.

RIDING THE BUS IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT.

LEVEL 1 BEHAVIOR

Defiance or Failure to Follow Bus Rules

  • Arriving late to bus stop (repeatedly)
  • Having any body part out of the window
  • Not having ZPass card (repeatedly) (only participating schools)
  • Standing too close to curb at bus stop
  • Using an unauthorized bus stop

Failure to Follow District Policy

  • Bringing objects on the bus that obstruct the aisle or exits
  • Making excessively loud noises
  • Food/drink out of backpack (if bus Rule)
  • General disruptive behavior
  • Leaving the area unclean
  • Not being quiet at railroad crossings
  • Not following Bus Driver/TA** directive
  • Not sitting in assigned seat (if required)
  • Not sitting in seat properly
  • Standing/moving while bus is in motion

 

LEVEL 2 BEHAVIOR

Defiance or Failure to Follow Bus Rules

  • Repeated behavior from level 1
  • Pushing
  • Spitting
  • Falsifying information
  • Forgery of document
  • Tripping

Failure to Follow District Policy

  • Repeated behavior from level 1
  • Abusive language or profanity
  • Tampering with others property

**TA = Transportation Assistant

LEVEL 3 & 4 BEHAVIOR

  • Defiance or Failure to Follow Bus Rules
  • Repeated behavior from level 2
  • Climbing out of window
  • False accusations
  • Fighting
  • Gang related (i.e. clothing, symbols, signs, or actions)
  • Making contact with a moving bus
  • Unauthorized use of an emergency exit
  • Throwing anything at the Driver/TA**
  • Throwing objects
  • Theft

Failure to Follow District Policy

  • Repeated behavior from level 2
  • Assaulting Driver/TA**
  • Bringing a dangerous item on the bus
  • Harassment/Bullying
  • Indecent exposure
  • Lewd or overtly sexual behavior
  • Physical harm to another person
  • Possession of a weapon or explosives
  • Destruction of District property
  • Public property destruction
  • Use of a lighter or match
  • Use of tobacco/electronic cigarettes on bus
